Department Description
We are looking for smart, passionate and motivated software engineers with excellent problem solving skills to take a principal role in the development and sustaining of the Sun Ray desktop thin client product. You will provide source code level analysis of reported software product defects on the Sun Ray display management framework, Sun Ray Connector and Sun Ray X Server Extensions for both the Solaris and Linux operating environments. You will see the problems through from when the defect is reported to when the patch is provided to the customer, including doing root cause analysis, creating and testing a solution, and integrating the solution back into the source code base.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing requirements.
Job Requirements
Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. Preferred Qualifications: BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
Additional Details
This role requires the ability to analyze, diagnose and develop software solutions to customer reported issues on high-level server software, networking interfaces between the server, network clients and the communication protocols between them, as well as user-mode drivers and low-level firmware drivers. Strong coding in C and C++, debugging skills using dbx or gdb, understanding of networking protocols coupled with in-depth knowledge of X11, X Window programming on Unix or Linux, and the ability and willingness to work with and comprehend unfamiliar source code. Strong written and oral communication skills, a strong sense of urgency, strong leadership skills, be self-directed, able to take on ownership of issues and working them through to completion are also important.
